The Federation organises many events during the year. These
include outings to places of interest, evenings with well known personalities
and get togethers such as Presidents' Evenings and Speakers Corners. Two
major meetings, the EGM in March and AGM in September are held at the
Winter Gardens, Weston-super-Mare where opportunities arise to voice opinions,
listen to interesting speakers and share one another's company. Combined Arts - Chairman: Pat Penson This Committee is involved with all forms of music, drama, creative writing, together with art and photography. It is also famous for its Christmas interpretations. Environment and Public Affairs - Chairman: Donna Butcher The Committee has a very wide remit. It is involved with
all matters concerning the Department of Environment, Farming and Rural
Affairs, Science and Technology, European Affairs, Consumer Protection
and the D.S.S. The Autumn lectures have taken place over several years
when various aspects of English Social History have been studied. Home Economics - Chairman: Sylvia Steer-Smith As the name implies the Committee arranges workshops in a wide range of subjects, including cookery, preservatives, sugar craft, interior design and flower arranging. The major event of the year is the Rally when speakers, expert in their field of knowledge entertain members during the day. There is always a competition and W.I. Markets provide a wonderful selection of goods for sale. Membership Support - Chairman: Daphne Vise This Committee is made up of W.I. Advisors who are N.F.W.I.
trained. Sport & Leisure - Chairman: Susan Meadows The Committee organises many outdoor/indoor activities
ranging from horse riding to abseiling, table tennis to croquet, walks
to skittles, darts and quizzies. Health has a high priority so this has
a big part to play in all the Committee's arrangements.
